Fleur Byers, 86, of New Cumberland, Pennsylvania, passed away on October 9, 2014. 

Fleur, daughter of Roy and Jeanne Bateman, is survived by her three children, Diane, David, and Brett, and six grandchildren.  She was born in Washington, D.C., and lived there, the New York City area, the Boston area, and in Lancaster before settling in New Cumberland nearly 30 years ago.  She spent the last month of her life in California with her children and grandchildren.  Fleur was a fine artist, using the mediums of pastel, watercolor, oil paint, drawing and etching, from her teenage years and continuing until very recently.  She won many awards in international, national and regional exhibitions, and her art has been shown in Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg, York, Lancaster, and Philadelphia as well as Boston, New York, Washington, D.C., and Baltimore.  Fleur taught art to many students of various ages.  Fleur was also a peace activist, and co-founded Arts for Peace and Justice in Harrisburg, in which she was involved for nearly two decades.  FleurÕs activism extended to her art, which include social commentary pieces. 

Memorial gifts may be given to the ACLU, Oxfam America, Peace Action,  and/or the UUSC.  A memorial service and celebration of FleurÕs life will be held at the former Gallery at Walnut Place, 413 Walnut Street, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on Saturday, May 23rd, at 3 p.m.  After the memorial service, a reception will follow, including a showing of a selection of Fleur's paintings.
